Our Agri Weave ground cover (also known as synthetic mulch, weed mat, or weed stop fabric) has been developed to prevent weeds, encourage water distribution and last longer under higher levels of southern hemisphere UV exposure. We’ve also developed a super reflective ground cover designed to enhance light reflectivity from the ground up.

BVB Substrates
The Cannabis substrates from Spilo’s substrates are tailor-made and produced to fit the exact needs of our cannabis growers. From propagation to the cannabis production, each plant requires an extremely stable medium with excellent moisture levels and air content. The plant will be in the same growing medium for multiple cycles in a row, so there can’t be any compromises with regards to quality. Spilo, supplies our cannabis growers with cannabis growing media that meets all the requirements for high yield growth.

Cannabis Farming Case Study
Overview
- Location – Lesotho
- Scale Of Operations – 1 hectare – trail block
- Growing System – total soil coverage in Boost Pots 7500 Boost Pots = 3600m2
Challenges
- Weed Control – use weedmat
- Humidity – often below 25% humidity
- Temperature Extremes – summer can get to over 35C & Winter down to -7C at night.
- Daylength – cannabis flowering is triggered when daylight hours are 12 hours or less – thus making Winter cropping difficult.
ROI
- At least 30% water saving.
- 35% more expensive to grow in boost pots with coir – but this should give 80-100% increase in yield.
- Still early days …. We’re still in the R&D phase.
Our Solutions
- Above soil / product level: Sun (heat and UV), rain and traffic.
- At soil / product level: Prevention of weed growth, durability under heavy traffic, reflectivity
for reduced heat around the berries, drainage of the water in the pot to prevent ‘wet feet’,
percolation of the Agri Weave to prevent water build up and to ensure drainage from the pot,
substrate optimising growth. - Below soil level: Drainage of water.
